For those of you who have not yet heard of THE ROCK ANIMALS… let me explain.
In the 1990’s a serious attempt was made to bring the music of The Animals back onto the scene and more up to date. This was by a band featuring two of the original 60’s members of The Animals; Hilton Valentine and John Steel, along with Keyboards player Steve Hutchinson, Guitarist Steve Dawson, Bassist Martin Bland (who all came from experienced rock backgrounds) and r&b vocalist Robert Kane..........and the result sounded great.
The band was called 'Animals II' and was well received around the world with its ‘rocky and raucous' approach to The Animals’ songs. The band toured continuously for 6 years packing venues throughout Europe and as far apart as Australia and the USA.
Sadly Animals II disbanded in 1999 at the height of its career and is no longer around.
In 2005 however, two ex members of The Animals and Animals II, whilst on tour together, were reminiscing about the time they had spent touring the World with The Animals, and how the fans had loved the rockier edge that they had given to the band whilst they were members. It was soon decided that they had to get back out on the road again with a band performing the Animals songs but this time as a rock band.
The concept of this band was to take the classic hits of The Animals around the World again, not as a tribute act by imitating the sound of the 1960’s Animals, but as a totally new band where a fresh, original, and much more rocky feel should be given to the songs, whilst still performing these classics songs with the respect they deserve.
It was decided that this new band was to be named 'THE ROCK ANIMALS', (straight to the point, and named so as not to be confused with The Animals). It would not only feature three ex-members of The Animals, but its other members would come from well seasoned rock backgrounds.
Now firmly on the road in 2006 THE ROCK ANIMALS are exciting their audiences with the hits of The Animals in the way that only THE ROCK ANIMALS can.
If you are a fan of the original Animals you will not be disappointed with THE ROCK ANIMALS show. All of the songs still portray the same famous melodies, but are performed with so much more raucous energy and passion than you have ever heard before.
With the exception of I’m cryin (Burdon/Price), the hits of The Animals were actually written by such great songwriters as Mann & Weil (Weve gotta get out of this place), John Lee Hooker (Boom boom), Goffin & King (Don’t bring me down), Jimmy Reed (Bright lights big city), Ray Charles (What’d I say), Sam Cooke (Bring it on home) and of course Traditional arr (House of the Rising Sun).
In the 1960’s The Animals basically interpreted songs by playing them in their own definitive style.
In 2006 THE ROCK ANIMALS are doing the same thing as The Animals did in the 60’s....... interpreting these great songs but in the style of THE ROCK ANIMALS
If you encounter THE ROCK ANIMALS live in concert I'm sure you will return home feeling that from now on, this is the way you will always want to hear these great songs performed.
